Message from the Principal

Happy December, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed our unexpected snow day/ extra day for Thanksgiving break. While it may have thrown a little twist into our schedule, it was also a great reminder of the beauty and fun this season brings. Our students came back excited, bundled up, and ready to learn, and it was wonderful to see their energy fill the building.

As we move into this busy month, we appreciate your continued partnership—making sure students arrive prepared for winter weather, staying engaged in school events, and supporting learning at home. December is always full of excitement, and we are looking forward to a great few weeks together.

Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us. Let’s make it a joyful and productive December!

Important Message from the School Nurse

We are seeing an increased number of cases of head lice in our buildings as well as across the Southwest Michigan area.  With the number of cases increasing, please check your child’s hair frequently for nits and live bugs.  If your child is found to have head lice, please begin treatment immediately.  Head lice treatment is very time consuming and can be expensive, but if the head lice and all of the nits are not removed from the hair as well as anything that comes in contact with the hair the cycle will start over in your home.

There are resources for head lice treatment in the main office if you need assistance.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at 269-782-4420 ext. 1218 or sdorman@dowagiacschools.org.

The last day to collect items will be 12/18/2025. Thank you for all your participation is supporting the local Sister Lakes Families!

Mrs. Cooper is one of the most wonderful parts of our school. She cares deeply for our staff, students, and families, and she’s the first to step up—often before anyone even realizes help is needed. She is creative, resourceful, and able to confidently take charge when Mrs. Stout isn’t there, keeping everything running smoothly. Her warmth, patience, and incredible work ethic make our school feel like home, and we are so grateful for all she does each and every day.

Reminders

With the change of weather coming, please make sure to send your student with the proper outdoor clothing for the days forecast. Boots, winter coats, snow pants, hat and gloves will be needed soon!

ATTENDANCE:

It is very important that students are in school everyday, but the school realizes that there are some reasons for excused absences. Please make sure to call the office and let us know when your student is going to be absent or the school will be calling you. When a student returns to school after any period of absence, please send a note stating the reason for the absences.

*If your student(s) is running late, please bring them to the office and sign them in.
