Students have been working on being good Chieftain HEROs. Please talk to your students about what that means and help encourage positive behavior.

ATTENDANCE

It is very important that students are in school everyday, but the school realizes that there are some reasons for excused absences. Please make sure to call the school (269-782-4468) and let us know when your student is going to be absent.

*If your student(s) is running late, please bring them to the office and sign them in.

Building Highlights

Congratulations to the Sister Lakes Student of the Month for September, Emma Vandenburg! She is a fifth grader in Miss Kruckeberg’s class. She wants to be a first-grade teacher when she grows up. At school, Emma enjoys reading different genres of books. Her favorite food is chicken alfredo, and her favorite drink is Sunny D.

"I chose Emma as our September Student of the Month, because she is a very responsible, kind, and hard-working student. She is always attentive and engaged in lessons, and she quietly focuses on her independent work. She is also great at following directions!" - Miss Kruckeberg (Emma's 5th grade teacher)

Mrs. Seppala's 3rd grade worked on expanding thier opinion writing from the whole group to independent writing.

The students, Mrs. Seppala and Ms. Cindy made homemade applesauce in the classroom and compared it to store-bought applesauce; then, they wrote their opinion about whether they prefer the homemade applesauce or the store-bought applesauce.

Boo Fest

PTO is now accepting candy donations for Boo Fest. The candy bin is located just outside the office. You may send donations in with your student or drop them off at the office! Thank you to our parents and students for their continual support of our school activities!

Staff Shoutout

Mrs. Alsup took on a new adventure this week and became an additional first grade teacher. She jumped right in and brought a fresh perspective to the classroom. The students responded positively to her engaging teaching style. Sister Lakes is lucky to have Mrs. Alsup and can't wait to see all she accomplishes with her students.

Reminders

Our schools and the Dowagiac District Library have come together to encourage reading. Elementary students who attend the Adventures in Bookland Club (ages 6-8) and Inkwell Explorers Book Club (ages 9-12) will receive Hero Tickets they can use at their school's Hero Store.
