HERO Expectations: Honesty, Earning and Giving Respect, Responsibility, and Orderly and Safe! Today we focused on being Orderly and Safe! Please discuss with your child how they can not only be orderly and safe at school, but in the community as well!

Attendance:Please remember the importance of attendance; attendance matters! Let's work on getting perfect attendance for the whole month of September!

8:48 am is the START of the school day

9:00 - 9:19 am is considered TARDY

Any time after 9:20 am is considered ABSENT

3:48 pm is the END of the school day

END OF DAY CALLS and PICK UPS: You must call the office by 3:00 p.m. to make arrangements for your student to go home a different way. This is a policy that we have had in place and unfortunately have to enforce. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

BUILDING HIGHLIGHTS

Fire Safety Week at Pat Ham

Pat Ham students got a visit from the Dowagiac Fire Department on Thursday, October 9th to learn about fire safety.

Students learned to about the proper care of smoke detectors, the importance of having a plan at home in case of a fire and learned about the fireman's gear and safety equipment.

Our staff and students enjoyed dress up days to celebrate Homecoming week.

Patrick Hamilton Staff Spotlight of the Month

Mrs. Kurland is Pat Ham's Staff of the Month. She earned her bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University. Mrs. Kurland has been a teacher for the past 28 years and has shared her joy of learning with the 2nd graders, 3rd graders, special education and is currently teaching 1st grade. Mrs. Kurland, and her husband have 4 children and 1 grandchild together. Mrs. Kurland says the she loves seeing a child's face light up when they learn something new. Her favorite book to read to her class is First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. As a class, they talk about how we are all nervous for the first day of school, even the teacher. Then they drink Jitter Juice to help calm our nerves. It is a great first step to building a classroom community.
