Kincheloe Elementary Weekly News

March 7, 2025

National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5-9, 2025. The Michigan Department of Education’s (MDE) Office of Educator Excellence wishes to celebrate teachers across Michigan for the entire month of May.

MDE invites parents to submit 15-30 second videos of their students recognizing and thanking a specific teacher for their impact. Cell phones easily capture the videos. Please follow the directions on the flyer. Videos and parental consent must be submitted via the Teacher Appreciation Video Project Google Form.  Videos are currently being accepted until Friday, April 16, 2025.

Submitted videos may be posted on the Teacher Appreciation Month webpage and MDE’s YouTube channel. The Office of Educator Excellence’s Facebook  (@MIeducator) and X (formerly Twitter) social media pages will be promoting the videos throughout the month of May.

If your child has great things to say about a teacher, use the instructions found on MDE’s website to submit a video today!

If you submit a video to MDE, please share it with Amber Todd, our Communications Director, at atodd@dowagiacschools.org. This will enable her to feature these videos on our website and Facebook pages.

Good attendance is a great habit!

Bus Rider Families:

Please ensure you arrive at the bus stop for pickup and are prepared to board the bus 5 to 10 minutes early each day. This will help the drivers maintain their schedule and adhere to the designated routes. Thank you!

Attendance Policy:

Good attendance is vital to student success. Studies show that students who are frequently absent have lower grades, lower self-esteem, and increased behavior problems. We want to help all of our students to be successful and have set up guidelines for attendance. Students are expected to be in school every day possible, but we realize that there are some reasons for absences. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to call by 9:30 am on the day of an absence when a student is absent letting us know the reason for the absence, or you will receive a call. If no call was received, the student must bring a written note from his parent or guardian stating the reason for the absence. Automatic calls will begin at 10:30. If you receive a call in error, please call the school (269-782-4464) in order for us to figure out the situation.

Please remember to keep us updated with all phone number changes so you can stay informed.

Building Times: Start time is 8:51 AM and end time is 3:47 PM. When dropping your child off late they must use the front office doors for safety reasons.

Dismissal car riders: To facilitate our line moving along we would like you to load your car on the passenger side next to the sidewalk. Please remember to use the pick up line and not the parking lot, and buckle up for safety.

Winter Weather Reminder: Students should come with proper winter clothing to be outside every day. Winter boots, hats, gloves and snow pants are a must if they want to be playing in the snow.

Water Bottles: Students should bring their own refillable water bottle for the school day. Please label all of your students belongings. We have filling stations in the hallways and drinking fountains in every classroom.

Cold and Flu season is here, please remember to wash your hands, drink plenty of fluids, and good nights sleep every night!

Volunteers: We welcome any and all suggestions and volunteers. You will need to have a volunteer form on file.
