Today is the day! We are officially kicking off our fundraiser with Charleston Wrap® – and we need YOUR help! To reach our goals and make this fundraiser a success, we need everyone to do their part. Luckily, it’s super easy! Attached to this message, you’ll find a flyer with detailed instructions about how you can register online and support our goals. March is Nation Reading Month:  This year we are going to "Go For the Gold in Reading!" Reading log packets with reading month information was sent home today!   Let's work together to promote reading and have our students reach our goal.

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences:  Parent Teacher Conference Forms will be sent home Tuesday, February 24th.  Conferences will be held on March 11th and 12th.

Kids Heart Challenge: Check out our certificate, we are so proud of our students!

WINTER IS HERE:   It is time to drag out those HATS, BOOTS, WINTER COAT, GLOVES and SNOW PANTS.  Please put your students name in each item so that they don't get mixed up with other students having the same color item.

NO POKEMON or ANY KIND of TRADING CARDS BROUGHT TO SCHOOL!! Please remind your students that no Pokemon or any trading cards are allowed at school. Thanks for working together in keeping everyone's trading cards at home.

ST. FRANCIS OUTREACH FOOD PANTRY: The food pantry at the Catholic Church in Dowagiac on Oak Street is open every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. No necessary forms to complete.

DISMISSAL TIME REMINDER: Please remember to park Northbound on James St., Eastbound on Wayne St. and Southbound on Oak St. when you are picking up your child. GSRP and Kindergarten parents are to use the parking lot which is accessible off of James Street and then please exit onto Wayne St. Thanks for working together in keeping everyone safe.

We have had many students that are out of school for various illnesses and I wanted to remind parents about our illness policy which states that children should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of any fever reducing medication such as Tylenol or Motrin.  I also want to remind parents that it is important for you to contact the school to notify us that your child is ill.  The school is required by the public health law to report illness numbers to the local health department each week and the information we report is gathered from what parents report to the school.  It is very helpful for our report if you can provide us with a basic idea of what type of illness your child is experiencing.  Also if your child is seen at a physician office please bring in a written excuse from their office to document their illness.  

Just a reminder, any medication that must be administered at school must have a completed medication authorization form completed by a physician.  Medication must be brought to school by a parent/guardian with the authorization form completed. This form can be obtained in the office along with the Dowagiac Union School Medication Policy. 

Also reminding you as we are still in the cold months,  your children will be wearing coats and hats so with those we find the number of students with head lice to be increasing.  Please remember to check your child’s hair frequently during these times.  If you notice any signs of head lice please begin the treatment process immediately.  This process is very time consuming, but in order to keep the head lice from returning the entire process must be completed.  If you would like information about the treatment of head lice please feel free to contact me at 269-782-4420 ext. 1218 or sdorman@dowagiacschools.org with any questions or concerns.

December Student of the Month  2nd Grader  Sara Ventura-Morales- Price’s Class

Sara is an awesome student to have in class. She goes above and beyond to complete excellent school work, including taking time to focus on her handwriting. Sara is eager to learn and wise beyond her years. Sara can be counted on to follow HERO expectations and is always willing to help others. Sara sets an excellent example for her peers. She is always polite, kind, and appreciative.  

Sara is the daughter of Jose and Nereyda. She has 3 siblings, 2 sisters and 1 brother. She also has a little dog and an outside big dog. Sara loves reading and doing crafts with her sister. She has experience playing soccer and really likes the piano. Sara's older sister teaches her piano and Sara can even play the song 'Happy Birthday!' Her favorite way to show kindness is by playing with others. 

Sara is so deserving of being the 2nd grade Student of the Month!

January 26 Student of the Month- Lillian Dietz - JGage - Northrop’s class.

Lillian  is a true example of a Chieftain hero and an outstanding citizen in Mrs. Northrop’s  first-grade classroom. Her hard work and dedication have paid off and are reflected in her i-Ready test scores. She has shown wonderful academic, social, and emotional growth throughout the school year. She is a confident, helpful, and well-liked member of our first-grade classroom who is always willing to help others. 

Lillian is the daughter of Robert and Errika Dietz. She has one cat named Precious, 2 dogs - Atlas and Rylie, 17 chickens and 1 Rooster. When Lillian grows up she would like to be a veterinarian. In her free time Lillian enjoys playing board games as well as video games. 

The entire Justus Gage Family is extremely  proud of her!
