Testing in session

Greetings DMS Chieftains Families,

We have begun assessing our students' knowledge in both Math and ELA using the NWEA Test.  This test helps us to identify areas we need to review prior to moving on with new content.  It also helps us have a better understanding of where each student is so we can develop a plan to catch them up or help others to move ahead with the curriculum. Students completed the Math assessment last week.  This week teachers will be administering the ELA test.  The good news is so far, a good portion of our students are showing they remember what they’ve learned despite the time off for summer!

As we continue to emphasize our H.E.R.O.E.S. Positive Behaviors at DMS, students were given the opportunity to respond to a weekly question related to the habits we are wanting them to demonstrate in our classrooms and hallways.  On Friday, September 13th, Students placed their responses to our question in our special HEROES BOX for a chance to win varsity home football tickets.

Both of our 7th and 8th grade Volleyball and Football teams competed well in their games last week.  Our DMS Cheer Team was there to help keep the atmosphere energetic and exciting for all who were in attendance.

Students who have been selected for our DMS National Junior Honor Society have  begun meeting with Mrs. Marrs, 7th grade Health & Media Literacy teacher, to plan out their community service projects for the year.  Students who are in this club find ways to “give back” to our community by volunteering and donating their time for various causes.  This year they expect to make an even bigger impact!

Finally,  we have our first DMS ACTIVITIES NIGHT scheduled for Friday, September 20th, from 4:00-6:00 pm.  The cost for this event is $5. Students will have the opportunity to enjoy time with their friends while having a chance to engage in physical activity in our gym and music in our main hallway.

Great things are always happening at DMS!
