6th Grade Social Studies - Mrs. Stanford

This week in social studies we began our new unit on Europe by labeling a blank map of European countries so that we can become familiar with "where" these places are. Students will be examining physical geography across the continent including major landforms and waterways - the Ural Mountains, the Pyrenees, Swiss Alps or the Volga and Rhine rivers. Starting the lesson by working on vocabulary terms/definitions students need to be familiar with to understand the lesson. As we go through the lesson students will take notes on landforms and waterways. This week's goal is to make cultural connections relative to the environment and address how it influences human identity. For example, how mountains separate nations from one another, allowing them to form their own independent identities. Students will learn about Viking stewardship, the culture of hygge, why western europe is so much more connected than the rest, why the east is a cultural melting pot, and why the south is focused on family life. We aren't just learning facts about the land and water but how people create a cultural identity that is influenced by their environment that they call home.

7th grade Math (Keenan)

7th grade math students have just completed Module 8 on Geometric Figures. Throughout this unit, students explored key concepts including vertical and adjacent angles, complementary and supplementary angles, and triangles. As we move forward, please check in with your student to ensure they are completing their goal of 10 topics per week in ALEKS. Staying consistent with ALEKS practice is important for reinforcing skills and supporting continued growth in math.

Gil Math 7

Ms. Gil’s 7th grade math students are currently focusing on mastering Order of Operations, building a strong foundation for solving more complex mathematical expressions. In addition, students are working on individualized I-Ready lessons tailored to address gaps in learning and strengthen their overall math skills. Continued practice on I-Ready is highly encouraged, as it supports student growth and helps reinforce concepts learned in class.

Gil Math 6

Ms. Gil’s 6th grade math students have just wrapped up their unit on division and are transitioning into learning about Order of Operations. This next unit will help students build accuracy and confidence when solving multi-step problems. In addition, students are continuing to work on individualized I-Ready lessons to target gaps in learning and strengthen their math skills. Ongoing I-Ready practice is strongly encouraged, as it provides valuable support and reinforcement of concepts taught in class.
