Roundup and Upcoming Events:

Hello DMS Families,

REMINDER: DMS will be hosting a SPRING CRAFT FAIR this Saturday, April 12th (9:00-3:00 pm). There will be over 50 vendors available at the event for you to choose from (e.g. bakers, 3D printing, jewelers, Arts & Crafts, Seasonal Items, etc.). The EASTER BUNNY will also be at DMS for pictures too! We look forward to seeing everyone!

We would like to thank Mr. Carr's Industrial Arts and Mrs. Leighton's Life Skills classes for teaming up to create several Corn Hole Games that will be on sale at our Spring Craft Show this weekend. Students learned a lot in the process of fabricating them. Nice work CHIEFTAINS!

We would like to congratulate the DMS/ETS esports Teams for making it to the MSEL Spring Playoffs. They ended the regular season ranked 5th and 13th out of 97 teams in the East Region of the United States. They will have their first round playoff match next week on Thursday, April 17th. Good luck CHIEFTAINS!

ATTENTION 8th grade families. 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT8 assessment on Wednesday, April 16th. We ask that you help us by having your son or daughter arrive to school by no later than 7:37am to ensure they are able to take this test. Also, we ask that you avoid coming to pick up your child during the hours of 7:30-12:00 to ensure they are able to complete their tests without interruption. Thank you for your help and support!

2025 Football Sign-Ups are happening now. Recently DMS & DUHS football coaches came to visit with students during lunches to recruit student-athletes interested in being involved in summer workouts. Over 56 students made the commitment to the program helping us to prepare prepare for continued future success!

This week staff reviewed our DMS HEROES expectations with students in their classrooms. They outlined the behaviors we want our students to exhibit in all of our learning environments. Students reflected on questions posed to them by their teachers on how to continue following these positive behaviors for the remainder of the year: H=Helpful, E=Engaged, R=Respectful, O=Ownership, E=Empathetic, S=Safe. Thank you students for your continued commitment to our school!

FYI-YEARBOOKS are available to purchase for those interested in picking one up. Please see the QR code found below to place your order.

GREAT things are ALWAYS happening at DMS!!

Staff Weekly Updates

Here is what students have been doing in their classrooms

Mr. Ross Tidey - Resource

Resource Students this week are using the organization/time management skills we practiced before spring break to prepare for the final stretch of the school year. Students are using these skills to help them complete work and get it turned in to stay caught up with their grades for the end of the year.

Miss Hamilton - Social Studies

This week, students logically progressed from understanding European geography, using political maps and inflatable globes to analyzing the feudal social structure. By identifying countries, and then role-playing in the feudal pyramid (Kings, Nobles, Knights, Serfs), students directly observed the inverse relationship between power and population; fewer individuals hold the most power, while the less powerful groups make up the majority.

Mrs. Cline - Art

Charlotte used a combination of both hand stitching and a sewing machine to create this giant squid. The squid measures just over 6ft tall. This will be on display at the Box Factory in St Joseph, MI for the Community Student Art Show.

Mrs. Cline - Art 2

Art 2 is making great progress with their Surrealism grid drawings. Students learned different shading techniques such as hatch marks, cross hatching, stippling, and scumbling. These techniques work best for this project because it is done using a pen.

Mrs. Cline - Digital Design

Digital Design is currently working on desaturating (take away color) their pictures they captured outside and of Art 2's sculptures. By desaturating the photo, it turns it into a black and white photo.

Miss Cook - Social Studies
This week in Social Studies, students explored the rich history of ancient India. We learned about the origins and growth of Hinduism, and examined the rise of the Maurya and Gupta Empires. Students analyzed how these empires shaped Indian culture, government, and religion—laying the foundation for many modern traditions. It’s been a week full of engaging discussions and connections to world history!
