Roundup and Upcoming Events :

Hello DMS Families,

We want to thank all of our families who came to Spring Parent Teacher Conferences last week. It was nice to see so many faces and our teachers really enjoyed having conversations with you about your child's progress! We appreciate your participation!

ATTENTION families: Our Annual DMS Family Engagement Night will occur on Tuesday, March 11th (5:00-7:00 pm).  Our theme for this year's event is "GET A CLUE?" Over the course of the evening, students will team with their parent/s to solve education puzzles/questions which will lead them to clues to help solve our "Mystery Crime." All who participate will have a chance to earn special prizes (e.g. gift cards, Chromebooks, t-shirts, sweatshirts, books, games, etc.). Refreshments will be provided to all in attendance. Please RSVP for this special night by selecting the following weblink: DMS Title I Family Night Registration.

MATILDA the musical is coming to DMS next weekend. Performances will take place on Friday, March 14 (7:00PM), Saturday, March 15 (7:00PM) and Sunday, March 16 (3:00PM). Tickets are $10. Come and enjoy the show!

CRAFT FAIR & PICTURES with the EASTER BUNNY! DMS will be hosting a Spring Craft Fair on Saturday, April 12th. We have over 50 vendors scheduled for the event with more to come! Please spread the word with your family and friends. Also, we will have a the EASTER BUNNY here for pictures too!!

Wednesday, February 26th was Career Day at DMS! Local professionals from the area volunteered their time to share information with students about their careers (e.g. doctor, marketing, firefighter, police officer, real estate agent, chef, construction, plumber, engineer, welder, dentist, etc.) . We want to thank all of our presenters for donating their time to help our students explore the many paths they can take to a profession. We would also like to extend a BIG CHIEFTAINS SHOUT OUT to Mrs. Bethanie Eichel, SMC/ETS Coordinator, and Mrs. Chonda Rimpson, DMS School Counselor, for helping to organize this event for everyone!

"AWESOME!" is the word to describe our DMS Choir's performance supervised by DUS Choir Director, Mr. Hunter Schuur at the Michigan Schools Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) Festival on Wednesday, February 26th. Their performance was rated by a panel of judges who assigned a score from 1-4 (1=Excellent, 2=Good, 3=Fair, 4=Poor). We are PROUD to announce our 6th grade Choir earned a 2 rating and our combined 7th & 8th grade Choir received a 1! Nice work CHIEFTAINS!

BRING IT ON! Our DMS/ETS esports Teams begin their Spring Season chasing their second 1st Place Championship of the 2024-25 School Year. They won their 1st match in the MSEL esports League and will continue their season over the next several weeks for another run in the playoffs. Good luck CHIEFTAINS!

Attention all 7th & 8th grade girls interested in playing club softball. Sign ups are happening during lunch over the course of the week (3/3/25-3/7/25). More information will be available for those girls interested.

GREAT things are always happening at DMS!

Staff Weekly Updates

Here is what students have been doing in their classrooms

Miss Gil de Lamadrid - Special Education

Ms. Gil's 6th Grade math students are spending the week reviewing their multiplication skills in order to make working with equivalent ratios and ratio tables easier to understand!

Ms. Gil's 7th graders are working with positive and negative integers. They are preparing to crack the code using all four operations to help them get out of an escape room next week! Hopefully, we make it out before lunch!

National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5-9, 2025. The Michigan Department of Education’s (MDE) Office of Educator Excellence wishes to celebrate teachers across Michigan for the entire month of May.

MDE invites parents to submit 15-30 second videos of their students recognizing and thanking a specific teacher for their impact. Cell phones easily capture the videos. Please follow the directions on the flyer. Videos and parental consent must be submitted via the Teacher Appreciation Video Project Google Form.  Videos are currently being accepted until Friday, April 16, 2025.

Submitted videos may be posted on the Teacher Appreciation Month webpage and MDE’s YouTube channel. The Office of Educator Excellence’s Facebook  (@MIeducator) and X (formerly Twitter) social media pages will be promoting the videos throughout the month of May.

If your child has great things to say about a teacher, use the instructions found on MDE’s website to submit a video today!

If you submit a video to MDE, please share it with Amber Todd, our Communications Director, at atodd@dowagiacschools.org. This will enable her to feature these videos on our website and Facebook pages.
