Roundup and Upcoming Events :

Hello DMS Families,

We want to remind everyone we will be having a 1/2 day of school on Wednesday, February 26th. (Dismissal will be at 10:47 am). Also, during our 1/2 day, students will be taking part in our Career Day which was organized by Mrs. Eichel (SMC ETS Coordinator) and Mrs. Rimpson (DMS Counselor). At this school event, students will have the opportunity to meet with local professionals who have donated their time to share information about their careers.

We want to recognize Coach Spivey and Coach Gil and our DMS Spelling Bee Team performers for their efforts last week at the Cass County Spelling Bee. Our 6th grade team took 4th place, 7th grade earned 2nd place and our 8th grade team took 3rd. We had 3 students who went on to compete in the individual competition. O. Kilarney took 2nd place overall and S. Leighton finished 5th. GREAT JOB CHIEFTAINS!

Please mark your calendars! We have rescheduled our Annual DMS Title I Family Night for Tuesday, March 11th (5:00-7:00 pm).  Our theme for this year's event is "GET A CLUE?" Over the course of the evening, students will team with their parent/s to solve education puzzles/questions which will lead them to clues to help solve our "Mystery Crime." All who participate will have a chance to earn special prizes (e.g. gift cards, Chromebooks, t-shirts, sweatshirts, books, games, etc.). Refreshments will be provided to all in attendance. Please RSVP for this special night by selecting the following weblink: DMS Title I Family Night Registration.

We want to give a BIG DMS CHIEFTAINS SHOUT OUT to Coach Davis and our DMS Wrestling Team for their performance on Saturday, February 22nd at the Galesburg Invitational. We had a number of top performers and winners in their weight classes. Special recognition goes to B. Brewer, R. Olmedo, D. Valencia & C. White for taking 1st place.

Local State Farm Agent, Jeff Neumann, came to DMS to recognize 3 students in Mrs. Wilson's ELA class for the the America & Me Essay Contest. This year's essay award recipients were E. Taylor, E. Richter, & P. Mireles.  E. Taylor’s essay has been selected to be judged at the State level and has a chance to be a finalist.  Congratulations to everyone!

Our 7th and 8th grade Girls Basketball Teams continue to battle on the court in their last home game of the season against Brandywine Middle School on Monday, February 24th. They will play their final game tonight (Tuesday, February 25th at 4:00 pm) at Upton Middle School. Good luck Lady Chieftains!

Finally, if you were not able to join us on Monday, February 24th for Winter Parent Teacher Conferences you can still meet with your child's teachers on Wednesday, February 26th (12:00-3:00 pm). We look forward to seeing you.

GREAT things are always happening at DMS!

Mrs. Kruger - Science

Students in Mrs. Kruger's 8th grade Earth Science class researched an environmental issue threatening the world's oceans. Using their information, they created a movie poster portraying  the issue as a monster. The poster included information about how the issue affects the oceans, how it impacts marine life and humans, what will eventually happen if the issue is not addressed (cause and effect), what is being done to solve the problem, and what would be the student's solution to solve the problem.
