We are seeing an increased number of cases of head lice in our buildings as well as across the Southwest Michigan area. With the number of cases increasing, please check your child’s hair frequently for nits and live bugs. If your child is found to have head lice, please begin treatment immediately. Head lice treatment is very time consuming and can be expensive, but if the head lice and all of the nits are not removed from the hair as well as anything that comes in contact with the hair the cycle will start over in your home.
There are resources for head lice treatment in the main office if you need assistance. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at 269-782-4420 ext. 1218 or sdorman@dowagiacschools.org.

Tidey's Resource: Our class is hard at work and I couldn't be more proud of what these students have accomplished. With the two weeks remaining Resource students are in maintain mode to finish the semester strong. They are working towards a Mario Cart party the last day of school before a well earned Christmas break. This incentive was a huge hit this year and I am happy to bring it back this year. I have no doubt my Resource students will earn this reward as they have shown outstanding motivation this week. |
Miss Stanford - Social Studies
Students are developing an understanding of the environmental and geographical characteristics of the United States, West of the Mississippi River. Students are learning about different physical features such as the Rocky Mountains, Great Plains, Colorado Plateau, Columbia Basin, the Rio Grande River, and much more! Learning about physical features can help us understand how the physical environment shapes our lives. Geographical landforms are crucial because they can influence human lives, economic activities, and provide a whole other world for plants and wildlife, plus it's cool to see! In addition, studying these features allows us to develop critical skills and connect the natural world to our daily life.
Note: Students have also been practicing locating and identifying their U.S. 50 States to prepare for their final exam before the end of MP2.

Mrs. Cline - Art
Students have worked hard this week in Art. They completed their clay Christmas ornaments and they look great! I'm super proud of my students and their work!

7th Grade Math with Miss Bee
This week we broke into our Volume 2 Workbook! Starting off with Module 5, your scholars are beginning their algebra journey! This week we combined like terms and learned the distributive property, expanding linear expressions and simplifying them. We have been using markers to help make sense of playing the matching game for like terms. 'Tis the season of basketball, ask you scholar how I taught distributive property using "point guards" and "teammates". Check us out!

Mrs. Leighton's 6th-grade ELA class learned about dialogue, narration, character, and point of view within a narrative this week. Today, they spoke the dialogue scenes aloud from the book Boy: Tales of Childhood by Roald Dahl. I think they had fun acting out Mrs. Pratchett! |
Ms. Gil’s 6th and 7th Grade Math classes are gearing up for their Winter i-Ready assessments! We will begin testing toward the end of next week. In preparation, we’ll be conferencing with each student to review their current i-Ready goals, discuss their stretch goals, and talk about the progress they’ve made so far this year.
Students will also place their stars on our classroom data wall so they can visually track their growth. It’s always an eye-opening and motivating process for them, and we’re excited to celebrate their hard work!
