Last Week Roundup and Upcoming Events :

Hello DMS Families,

The Boy's 7th & 8th grade Basketball Teams started their season off last week with two away games. This week they will make their home debut against Berrien Springs Middle School on Wednesday, November 13th. Tipoff will be at 4:00 pm.

Students who were absent for Picture Day earlier this year were able to receive a photo for our Yearbook on Wednesday, November 6th. Students who wanted to purchase a "retake" also were able to do so on this day as well.

Our DMS Esports Team is making their mark and are currently in 1st place in the national Middle School Esports League based out of Kansas City. They will continue their quest to earn a Championship this week as they finish out the regular season and look forward to the playoffs. Keep up the good effort CHIEFTAINS!

Attention families, we plan on having a special guest, Ms. Tricia Kovac (U.S. Department of Justice FBI Supervisor), here at DMS on Thursday, November 21st to speak with students about the importance of using social media platforms appropriately and how to protect themselves from ill intending people. She has already completed presentations with students at both Cassopolis and Coloma Public Schools this school year.

Finally, this week Saturday, November 16th is the Annual Christmas Craft Show at DMS (9:00-3:00). There will be plenty of decorations and special gifts available to purchase for the holidays. Additionally, children will be able to meet the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who (10:00-2:00 pm). We hope you can make it.

Great things are always happening at DMS!

Mrs. Frontczak

This week, our 8th-grade students engaged in speedball, an innovative sport that combines soccer, basketball, and team handball. This activity not only enhances physical fitness but also develops essential teamwork skills and strategic thinking through its complex scoring system.

7th grade students in Mrs. Kruger's STEAM class created arcade games out of recycled materials after researching video game design and other technology careers. In 6th grade Earth Science, students are learning about plate tectonics and how Alfred Wegener's Theory of Continental Drift explains evidence of the supercontinent Pangaea!

8th-Grade Media Literacy

With millions of people listening to podcasts, Mrs. Marrs 8th-grade Media Literacy students decided to discover what podcasts are all about. Students have been busy analyzing podcasts this week, choosing a podcast of interest and then looking at how it was recorded, researching the speakers on the podcast to see how they were connected to the topic or if they were credible sources, and discovering various apps and programs that offer podcasts. After listening and analyzing students created an advertisement for their podcast to persuade others to want to listen to it.  Students will take what they have learned and will be placed in small groups creating their original podcasts.

It is that time of year again when the DMS Honors Club is holding its annual food drive before the holiday season.

This will run from 11/11/24 - 11/22/24

The first-hour with most donated items will receive donuts!

Please encourage your students and feel free to donate yourself. This is a great cause that goes to a local food drive. I know that times may be tough, but every little bit that we can donate is better than nothing.

Mrs. Leighton
